WHAT IS LAWN AERATION?

Lawn aeration is absolutely essential when it comes to improving the overall health of your lawn. Your lawn should be aerated, usually in the spring and fall, in order to prevent thatch buildup and soil compaction. When soil compacts, your lawn’s roots struggle to get oxygen and water, or find much-needed nutrients, causing shallow roots and reduced thickness and growth.

WHEN SHOULD I AERATE MY LAWN?

Ideally, aerate the lawn with cool season grass in the early spring or autumn and those with warm season grass in the late spring. When experiencing any dry conditions or drought, aeration is recommended. This will improve the passage for water and nutrients to reach the lawns roots when watering is limited.

DOES LAWN AERATION REALLY WORK?

Aerating your lawn is beneficial to almost all soils -but it offers the most benefits for soils that have become heavily compacted. If your grass roots cannot grow deep, the turf density and overall health will be effected. This often results in grass that is susceptible to drought, and leads to and unhealthy lawn.
